Chickenfeed Bargain Stores opened in Glenorchy, Tasmania in April of 1990. What was thought to be risky business idea took everyone by surprise!

Day one was an outstanding success to say the least! No-one could anticipate the amazing response to what was a simple marketing campaign. Flyers dropped into letterboxes in the local area! Thousands of people arrived on mass, ready to find a bargain! And find a bargain they did! So much was the demand, that within 12 months, there was a Chickenfeed store in most regions of the state. 7 stores in all!

Today, Chickenfeed employs over 600 loyal staff in 28 stores all over Tasmania. Our stores are in Smithton in the far North-West across to Scottsdale in the far North-East, and way down South in Huonville. Chickenfeed has become an icon in Tassie. We have the reputation of having the best bargains, the most friendly staff, and the most crazy commercials in the state!

Private equity firms Catalyst Investment Managers and CHAMP  acquired Chickenfeed in 2005, and are keen to keep the winning formula that has bought Chickenfeed so far in such a short time. It's hard to imagine Tasmania without Chickenfeed. Chickenfeed could not survive without the outstanding Tasmanian customers that have graced our aisles in the last 16 years.
